  • 1954 Artist Balasim Mohammed Jassam was born in the city of Kufa in the Central Euphrates of Iraq.
  • 1961 - 1971 He completed his elementary and middle school studies in Baghdad.
  • 1971 - 1975 He studied and graduated from the Institute of Fine Arts in Baghdad and obtained a diploma in Graphic Art and Arabic Calligraphy.
  • 1972 During his studies at the institute, he began his work as a designer, calligrapher, and painter in the media and journalistic field and remained working in this field for twenty years. He participated in editing, issuance and design of many newspapers and magazines in Iraqi during his career.
  • 1973 He participated in the students’ exhibition of the Institute of Fine Arts in Baghdad.
  • 1976 - 1979 He studied and graduated from the College of Fine Arts - University of Baghdad and holds a BA in Graphic Art.
  • 1976 He participated in the students' exhibition of the College of Fine Arts in Baghdad.
  • 1978 He received training in the art of design and journalistic directing in Budapest, Hungary, and in the same year he participated in the exhibition of the Department of Plastic Arts at Al-Riwaq Hall in Baghdad.
  • 1980 He participated in the April exhibition at the National Museum of Modern Art in Baghdad and the seventh anniversary of the ruling party exhibition at the Hall of the National Museum of Modern Art in Baghdad.
  • 1982 He designed the Hungarian pavilion at the Baghdad International Fair and received a training course in artworks conservation in Rome, Italy.
  • 1983 He participated in the exhibition of the Iraqi Plastic Artists Association in Baghdad.
  • 1986 He set up the "Adad Print Design" studio with other artists and participated in the Youth exhibition at the National Art Center in Baghdad.
  • 1988 obtained a master's degree in fine arts and his thesis was entitled "The concept of emptiness in the art of Islamic photography." He participated in the Iraqi art exhibition entitled "Art for Humanity" and the Humanitarian Art Conference in Baghdad.
  • 1989 - 1990 He continued his academic research and work in the field of print design, and participated in the exhibition of contemporary Iraqi art in Beirut, the exhibition "Iraqis" at Kodia Hall in Berlin, and the Conference of Plastic Arts in Baghdad. He took a course in color printing in Dusseldorf, Germany.
  • 1993 He participated in an exhibition entitled "Art for Humanity" in Baghdad.
  • 1994 He worked on interior design for RMC Company in Baghdad and participated in the Iraqi Art Gallery in London.
  • 1995 - 2005 He taught graphics and printing at the College of Fine Arts in Baghdad.
  • 1996 He established the "Ikal Printing and Design" printing press.
  • 1998 He established a graphic studio and a computer center at the College of Fine Arts in Baghdad, and participated in an exhibition entitled "Nature" at Hiwar gallery in Baghdad.
  • 1999 He worked on the interior design of the FMC Company wing in Al-Rasheed Hotel in Baghdad.
  • 2000 He earned a Ph.D. in philosophy, and his doctoral thesis was on “Semiotic Analysis of Painting Art - Principles and Applications”. He held an exhibition of graphics with his students in Baghdad and participated in the exhibition of professors of the College of Art in Baghdad.
  • 2001 He held an art exhibition for graphics with his students in Baghdad and participated in the first exhibition of drawings at Ofok Hall in Baghdad.
  • 2002 He participated in the Contemporary Art Speech Exhibition in New Delhi, India and participated in the Scientific Conference of the University of Mosul. He received a training course in teaching methods at the University of Baghdad in Baghdad.
  • 2003 He participated in the Conference on Printing Design and Packaging in India.
  • 2004 He established a "Visual Arts" studio with other artists and participated in an exhibition at the Rabat Hall in Baghdad. He wrote a book entitled "Studies in the Structure of Art" and was published by Al-Raed Al-Alamiya House in Amman. He also participated in the Philadelphia University conference in Amman.
  • 2005 He participated in the Art Professors' Exhibition in Baghdad and the "Meetings" Exhibition in Bahrain. He wrote a book entitled “Criticism and Art” which was published by Igal in Baghdad.
  • 2006 He participated in an exhibition at the Broadway Gallery in Amman, the Iraqi Art exhibition in New York, the "Dialogue of Civilizations" conference in Italy, and the Al-Mustansiriya University Conference in Baghdad. He wrote a book entitled "Studies in Art and Beauty" which was published by Majdalawi House in Amman.
  • 2007 He wrote two books entitled "Interpretation of Space in Islamic Arts" and "Limits of Ceramics - A Study in the Works of Sa’ad Shaker."
  • 2008 He participated in the exhibition "Immigration into Reality" in Amman and the exhibition "Iraqi Artists - Mesopotamia" in Abu Dhabi, UAE. He wrote two books entitled "Plastic Art - A Semiotic Reading in the Format of Painting" and was published by Majdalawi House in Amman and "History of Graphic Design" and was published by the Arab Society Library in Amman.
  • 2010 He held a solo exhibition entitled "The Abandoned Fragrance" in Amman and participated in the Iraqi Art Exhibition with the Iraqi Plastic Artists Association in Beirut.
  • 2011 He participated in the "Art Today" exhibition in Montreal, Canada.
  • 2013 He participated in the exhibition "Iraqi Spaces - Joint Annual Plastic Arts Exhibition" at the Iraqi Plastic Artists Association and the Contemporary Iraqi Art Exhibition "We Color Baghdad with Love and Peace" at the Baghdad Forum for Plastic Arts in the Department of Fine Arts in Baghdad.
  • 2014 He participated in the Plastic Art Festival in the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Iraqi Communist Party at the Hiwar Art Gallery in Baghdad.
  • 2015 He participated in the annual exhibition of the Iraqi Plastic Artists Association.
  • 2016 He participated in the exhibition "Iraqi Painters" of the Iraqi Plastic Artists Association and the Lebanese Association of Painting and Sculpture in Beirut.
  • 2017 He participated in the annual exhibition of the Iraqi Plastic Artists Association in Baghdad.
  • 2018 He participated in the 12th Wasiti Festival for Plastic Art in Baghdad, the exhibition "The Art of Words - Arab Women" in Istanbul, and the annual exhibition of the Iraqi Plastic Artists Association in Baghdad.
  • 2019 He participated in the exhibition "Contemporary Artists from Iraq" at Ras Al-Ain Gallery in Amman and the annual exhibition of the Iraqi Plastic Artists Association in Baghdad.
  • He taught at the Institute of Fine Arts in Baghdad, the Academy of Fine Arts in Baghdad, the College of Jerusalem in Amman, Al-Ahliyya Amman University, and Yarmouk University in Amman.
  • He won several awards during his career, including; The first prize for poster from UNESCO in New York, first prize for poster from the Iraqi Artists Association in Baghdad, the gold award for print design from the Ministry of Information for Alf Ba Magazine in Baghdad, the award for best journalist director and the award of appreciation from the Iraqi Women’s Union.
  • He was married and had three children.
  • April 09, 2021 The artist died of a heart attack, in Baghdad.
  • He was a member of the Plastic Artists Association.

  • He was a member of the Union of Arab Journalists.
