- Dutch painter born in 1620 in Haarlem, The Netherlands. Known as one of the "Dutch Italianate Landscape" painters.
- Was trained and taught by many Dutch Golden Age painters and among them was his father Pieter Claesz, a still life painter.
- 1645 – 1646 Joined the Dutch reformed church and married the daughter of Dutch painter Jan Wils.
- 1650 Traveled to Westphalia, Germany with a fellow painter, and then settled in Amsterdam.
- 1683 Passed away at the age of 63 in Amsterdam, The Netherlands
